Youth athletes recently helped inaugurate the new mini soccer pitch at the Northshore YMCA in Bothell, taking the first kick on space generously made possible through the Y’s partnership with RAVE Foundation, the official charitable arm of the Sounders FC and Reign FC, the US Soccer Foundation, and Delta Air Lines.
The RAVE Foundation is on a mission to provide free playfields and programs as a vehicle to inspire youth and strengthen communities. This mini-pitch at the Northshore YMCA is the first RAVE mini-pitch at any YMCA.
To celebrate this milestone, RAVE brought a special guest to emcee: Sounders legend Brad Evans, former Seattle Sounders FC captain, U.S. Men’s National Team player, and MLS Cup champion known for his leadership and current work as a Seattle Sounders community ambassador and broadcaster. Mascot Sammy the Sounder also joined Brad to lead the crowd in cheers.
Loria Yeadon, the President & CEO of the YMCA of Greater Seattle, emphasized in her remarks the meaning of the space.
“Sports have the power to improve health and wellness, connect communities, and open doors for youth,” said Yeadon. “At the Y, we see the power of sports to get young minds and bodies moving, forge new friendships, and promote fitness that bolsters Whole Person Health. We couldn’t be prouder of this partnership with the Sounders’ RAVE Foundation, Delta Air Lines, and all our other incredible partners to ensure that every child has a safe space to play, grow, and thrive.”
The new space will be used for soccer programming, day camp activities, special programs, and community events year-round.
