Active Older Adults (AOA) at the YMCA of Greater Seattle build relationships and create a network of friends who provide support for overall health and well-being. We’ve got a full line-up of virtual and in-person activities designed specifically for our AOA friends, plus other great programs like virtual cooking classes or lap swim that we think you'll enjoy!   • Community Café - Gardening for Small Spaces | May 17, 1:00 pm
    Master Gardener Mary Herem will provide guidance on containers, soils, and fertilizers. She’ll touch on pests, pollinators, and companion plants. We’ll learn about what foods we can grow in these environments – including edible flowers – and have an introduction to the practice of vertical gardening.  Learn more >

  • Community Café - Growing Food for Community | May 24, 1:00 pm
    We recognize the importance of community engagement in helping us to achieve our best health. One strategy to achieve health is how we grow and share food to support our communities. Come learn about some local efforts in Washington to bring fresh food growing and harvesting to support community.     Learn about poetry styles, examine the use of poetics in poetry and prose-poems, and practice writing with guided prompts.   • Community Café - Virtual Hike | May 31, 1:00 pm
    The café moves “outdoors” for a virtual hike in our lovely northwest forests. Even though it’s early in hiking season, you won’t have to worry about hiking boot blisters during this adventure from the comfort of home.  We will tackle varied terrain as we cross streams by tiptoeing, mount hills with high knees, and spot some lovely scenery along the way. Learn more >

  • Healthy Aging Series - Preventing Diabetes Class | June 3, 11:00 am
    Yes! You can prevent or delay type 2 diabetes with proven, achievable lifestyle changes—such as losing a small amount of weight and getting more physically active—even if you’re at high risk.  In our interactive learning session, we’ll identify the risk factors for type 2 diabetes and learn strategies to reduce your risk.  This class is offered free to all as part of our monthly Healthy Aging Series. Learn more >

  • Healthy Aging Series - Advanced Care Planning & Directions | July 1, 11:00 am
    Please join us for a facilitated conversation on Friday, July 1 at 11:00 am with Evergreen Healthcare staff to help make your wishes known and take the first steps toward completing an advance directive. Advance care planning is a process that helps you: reflect on your values; choose a healthcare agent; explore goals for treatment; and take the first steps toward completing an advance directive.
