As part of our initiatives for National Foster Care Month, we are partnering with Treehouse to collect host an ethnic hair care drive. So far, we’ve collected over 500 items, this includes a generous donation from Goody.

Nearly 500,000 children enter foster care each year in the United States. Although African-American children only make up 15% of the U.S. population, they make up 34% of the children in foster care. Through this partnership, the YMCA of Greater Seattle’s African American Resource Network hopes to ensure local African-American foster youth have access to hair care that allows them to be proud of their appearance and heritage.

You can donate at any of the following Y branches:

Northshore YMCA

Meredith Mathews East Madison YMCA

Downtown Seattle YMCA

Bellevue Family YMCA

West Seattle & Fauntleroy YMCA

Matt Griffin YMCA

Auburn Valley YMCA
