This summer, we invite you to see the impact your gifts are making on the people we serve. From foster care and food security programs to camp and community, there are opportunities for you to participate in Y programs all summer long. Registration is required as space is limited.

Impact Visits 2018

Y SCHOLARS’ GRADUATION & JUBILEE

When: Thursday, June 14, 5:45–8:00pm
Where: Garfield High School
Each year, the Meredith Mathews East Madison Y works with 120 students of color to prepare, support and enroll them in Advanced Placement classes. Join us and Y Scholar families for a celebration dinner!

COMMUNITY OF FOSTERING

When: Tuesday, June 16, Time TBD
Where: 2100 Building, 2100 24th Ave S, Seattle, WA 98144
Learn about Community of Fostering, the expansion of our fostering program that utilizes local Y branches as centers of support for foster families in their local communities.

ESL EDUCATION AT THE DOWNTOWN YMCA

When: Friday, June 22, 10:00-11:00am
Where: Downtown YMCA
After surveying individuals around the Downtown Y, we realized there was a gap in English language education for people in our community. To remedy this, the Y started a free English as a second language class. This class empowers students to develop basic English vocabulary and grammatical structures. Come observe a class and see the power of language education.

POPY’S CAFÉ AT THE DALE TURNER FAMILY YMCA

When: Wednesday, July 11, 5:00–6:30pm
Where: Prince of Peace Lutheran Church
Every Wednesday the Dale Turner Family YMCA partners with Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and members of our community to offer a free, delicious meal. Join us for meal preparation and dinner to experience the mission of POPY’s Café firsthand: to feed hungry people with dignity to build community, one meal at a time.

SUMMER CAMP IN ACTION AT YMCA CAMP ORKILA

When: Sunday, July 15, All Day
Where: YMCA Camp Orkila
See the magic of an Orkila summer in action! Walk on the 10:20 am ferry from Anacortes, spend a beautiful day touring camp, enjoy lunch in the lodge, and return on the 5:15 pm ferry from Orcas Island.

SPLISH SPLASH WEEK AT UNIVERSITY FAMILY YMCA

When: Thursday, July 19, Noon–2:00pm
Where: Magnuson Park<
You’re invited to join Y day campers for lunch, group games and arts & crafts projects during our Splish Splash week at Outdoor Day Camp.

KENT YMCA GROUNDBREAKING & COMMUNITY CELEBRATION

When: Saturday, July 21, 10:00am–Noon
Where: Merrill Meadows Park
Join us in celebration as we break ground for the future Kent YMCA! The Kent YMCA will expand our services  in South King County including health and wellness, youth programs, and more. This event includes fun activities for kids, so bring the whole family.

LUNCH, LEARN & PLAY AT YMCA CAMP TERRY

When: Thursday, August 9, 11:30am–1:30pm
Where: Camp Terry, Snoqualmie Branch
Every summer, Camp Terry hosts day camp for kids from 1st–7th grade, bringing together the fun and freedom of being outdoors while learning new skills and making new friends. We invite you to join us for lunch with the campers followed by skill-building activities.

DAY CAMP CELEBRATION & BBQ AT THE AUBURN VALLEY YMCA

When: Thursday, August 9, 11:00am–12:30pm
Where: Auburn Valley YMCA
Join us as we celebrate the last day of summer day camp! Spend lunch playing games and enjoying a barbecue with campers as we send them back to a successful school year.

ACTIVITIES FOR ALL AT WEST SEATTLE YMCA

When: Saturday, August 18, 7:30pm
Where: West Seattle YMCA
The Y isn’t just a place for our members; it’s a place for community to gather, learn, and connect with each other. Visit the newly renovated West Seattle YMCA to learn about the complimentary programs open to all community members. Stick around after the tour for the free outdoor movie! This visit is family-friendly.
 

SAFE PLACES, SAFE COMMUNITIES AT THE MATT GRIFFIN YMCA

When: Tuesday, August 21, 2:30–4:00pm
Where: Matt Griffin YMCA
Creating safe communities means preventing violence before it starts. Come learn about the Accelerator Y’s violence prevention program, Alive & Free. Take the opportunity to discuss issues facing teens and young adults in South King County with our skilled program staff.
 

TACKLE BACK-TO-SCHOOL STRESS BEFORE IT STARTS AT THE SAMMAMISH COMMUNITY YMCA

When: Sunday, August 23, 6:00–7:30pm 
Where: Sammamish Community YMCA 
Attend this public session hosted by Allora Tvedt, the Mental Health Counselor in the Sammamish Community YMCA, and engage in a conversation about mental health care in this busy back-to-school time. There will be a conversation on preventative measures around stress, creating healthy habits, and achieving balance working together as a family. Ages 13+ are welcome to join! Following the class, a tour of the Sammamish Community YMCA will be available.
