Dear Y Family and Friends,
As we look back on 2024, we are in awe of the many ways that the community has continued to support the YMCA of Greater Seattle. We are deeply moved by the collective spirit of resilience, compassion, and unity that defines our community of support. Thank you!
In 2024, we launched several exciting new initiatives. We opened the YMCA Early Education Center at Eastgate, which provides childcare for children from 6 weeks to 5 years old. This is our fifth early learning center, with more on the horizon to meet the growing need for high-quality early learning programs in our community.
Our Camping and Outdoor Leadership programs continue to make the great outdoors more accessible and affordable for all. We opened the new Olympic bathrooms and broke ground on the Robinson Education Center at Camp Orkila – advancing capital projects started before the pandemic. We partnered with the Department of Natural Resources to breach the levee at Camp Colman, creating clear fish passageways and an outstanding location for young people to learn about the ecology of Puget Sound. And we prepared to re-open Camp Kilworth in Federal Way for day camp and environmental education. The camp provides an exciting opportunity to serve hundreds of children and youth in South King County each year. This historic forested property will continue to shape the lives of countless young people and their families, fostering a sense of adventure, leadership, stewardship, and connection.
There is much about 2025 that remains unknown. Like many non-profits that receive government funding, the Y is experiencing negative financial impacts due to federal and state funding cuts, and we are preparing for even more funding cuts and negative impacts this year. These changes reduce resources available for our programs and operations. This could impact how we serve youth experiencing homelessness, those in need of behavioral health services, and families raising foster children. However, we know that with the commitment of our passionate board and staff – and the incredible generosity of our donor community, including individuals, corporations, and foundations – we will continue creating a future where every child has equitable access to opportunities that help them unleash their unique gifts and talents.
To each and every one of you who has played a role in our work and impact, we extend our deepest gratitude and heartfelt appreciation. Your dedication, generosity, and unwavering belief in our mission inspire us to push beyond what we thought possible, making a tangible difference in the lives of youth and families in our community, especially those who need us most.
With heartfelt gratitude,
