Over 100 hundred years – that's how long it’s been since we established a new YMCA of Greater Seattle camp. Our new property at Mineral Lake provides an opportunity to be bolder as we continue reimagining outdoor education experiences for youth and families. And now, we are one step closer to creating these new and enriching experiences.

After acquiring the first 500 acres in 2021, the Y has officially closed on the purchase of the remaining 1,600 acres at Mineral Lake. Securing this property is the beginning of something new and beautiful. Can you imagine all the opportunities for youth and families to engage in new experiences together?

Our Vision for Mineral Lake

Imagine...the crackle of a campfire as you fall asleep beneath more stars than you’ve ever seen in your life. How about getting to know the lake’s ecosystems, then diving in to cool off after a game of tag? Youth at Mineral Lake will be able to start their outdoor adventures in 2023, with rustic camping kicking off this summer. Inclusivity, accessibility, and community collaboration in spirit, mind, and body are the guiding principles of developing programming and living our mission at Mineral Lake. By partnering with the Mineral Lake community members, the  Nisqually Tribe, Y members, volunteers, youth, and others, we’ll co-create something inspirational that can be enjoyed for generations to come.

What’s Needed to Complete These Property Acquisitions?

With the support and flexibility of the property owners, the Y has executed agreements to finance these properties with payments made over time, which allows the Y to continue to fundraise and others in community to walk alongside us. The Y has not been immune to the ramifications and devastating impacts of the pandemic, economic downturn, and rising costs. We will need continued community support and investments in our shared vision to bring these opportunities to fruition.

The Y is seeking partners to secure the remaining funds, which would allow us to keep its promise to community and secure the future of the camp and outdoor education for future generations.

We invite you to join us in support of this generational opportunity. We cannot do it without you.
