The Accelerator YMCA is home to YTech, a program that aims to help close the digital equity gap for young people in King County. This program helps young people build digital skills that will help them succeed both in work and in life.
There are several opportunities for tech sector professionals to get involved and volunteer with this program:
is a weekly afterschool drop-in program for middle and high school students, intended to help build a bridge between our young people and Seattle’s tech economy. Students participate in skill-building workshops about coding, game /app design, and digital media. They also take field trips and have a chance to meet tech professionals and learn about their careers through job shadowing. This program includes a partnership with Microsoft MicroVolunteers, as well as other tech professionals. Participants will have the opportunity to earn laptops, tablets, cameras, and internet hotspots.
YTech Tuesday Tech Career Day
Tuesday, March 28th from 4:00-5:30pm
A meetup between middle and high school students in our YTech Tuesdays afterschool program and Seattle tech professionals! Tech professionals needed to visit our program, to tell our students what’s challenging and cool about your job, how you got it, and how they could get a job like yours.
YTech Tech Job Shadowing Day
Tuesday, April 11th, between 11:00am and 5:00pm
A day for our students to get some some on-the-job experience with tech professionals. Tech professionals needed to host a small group of youth for a few hours at their office, spend a little time showing them around and give our students a sense of what it’s like to work there. Student groups will be less than 5 youth (could be as small as 2 youth if necessary), and will be accompanied by a staff or volunteer adult chaperone.
