Alvin and his family have been members of the Matt Griffin Y since it first opened in 2009. Initially, Alvin joined to give his kids a safe, welcoming place to do athletic activities, but over the years the Y has provided so much more.
“It’s given us a place of community,” Alvin says. “Friends can work out together, bond, kids grow up together, and you meet people with similar values.”
Recently, Alvin supported the Matt Griffin Y with a gift to the Annual Fund Drive, taking place in February and March. For him, it’s all about giving kids safe spaces.
“The Y is one of the most worthy causes out there that I can think of,” Alvin says. “Your gift is multiplied many times over through programs, opportunities, positive peers and mentors that develop kids’ self-esteem and confidence so when they get older, they’ll give back, too. Giving to the Y makes you part of a cycle of values, community, family, and physical fitness that just keeps on going.”
At the Matt Griffin Y, you can be part of this cycle, too. By pledging to donate $10 or more for 10 months to the Matt Griffin Y Annual Fund Drive, you’ll support your community by providing programs, financial assistance, and services that benefit South King County. Plus, for a limited-time, you can also receive a t-shirt to showcase your support. To join the drive, visit the welcome center, or click the give button on this page.
