Who's eligible

Youth, teens, and young adults currently in foster care or extended foster care with a home address in King County can get a 100% free membership. Foster families in King County can get a 25% discount off the cost of a family membership.

How to Join

Before you begin, you'll need these documents: a government-issued ID and either proof of your foster parent license or Ward of the Court letter. If you are under 16 you do not need a government-issued ID.

Next, bring your documents to Member Services at any YMCA of Greater Seattle branch. If you are under 18, please bring your foster parent with you. They'll need their proof of foster parent license with them to complete your membership. If you are over 18 and in foster care, bring your Ward of the Court letter with you. And if you're a foster parent, bring your proof of foster parent license with you to get your discounted family membership.

At Member Services you will complete a membership application, sign waivers, have your photo taken, and get your membership card on the spot. Memberships are valid for one year from the date of issue and can be renewed annually by following this same process.

About the Program

We are proud to offer free memberships for all King County kids in foster care, and a 25 percent family membership discount for all King County foster families. This initiative means thousands of kids, regardless of their foster family’s licensor, will have access to health and wellness initiatives across King County.

This membership discount is an expansion of the Y’s Community of Fostering initiative to build a network of support within foster family communities. Foster families who are licensed through the Y will continue to receive a 100% discount for their memberships.
