Celebrating Culture, Building Community
Throughout the year, we partner with community members to explore and celebrate the diverse cultures, traditions, and contributions that shape who we are.
Programs such as our Women’s Only classes and other culturally responsive offerings provide welcoming spaces where individuals and families can access the Whole Person Health support they need to thrive. Additionally, local Y locations host events and workshops that deepen cross-cultural understanding and foster connection through heritage month and holiday celebrations.
Culturally Responsive Programs
Guided by our commitment to equity and inclusion, the Y creates culturally responsive programs that reflect and honor the diverse needs, identities, and experiences of the communities we serve.

Women’s Only Swim
We offer dedicated swim times exclusively for women and girls, supported by female staff, to create a welcoming environment. This allows participants to swim, play, and connect comfortably in a way that honors cultural, religious, and personal preferences.

Women’s Only Classes
Our women's only programs include classes such as Zumba, Dance Fitness, Rhythm and Strength, plus Nutrition Workshops where women of all ages, backgrounds, and fitness levels can enjoy the benefits of movement and wellness in a women-only environment.

Active Older Adults (AOA) Classes
We offer fitness classes designed for adults ages 55 and older, including chair yoga, dance, strength training, water fitness, and more. These classes support mobility, flexibility, balance, and overall well-being in a welcoming, age-friendly environment.

Diversity in the Outdoors
We create welcoming spaces for affinity groups to build community through shared camp experiences. These programs offer time for fellowship and conversations around life skills unique to each group’s lived experience, all in a setting that celebrates the great outdoors. Participants come together to enjoy a variety of traditional camp activities such as archery, beach combing, boating, hiking, arts & crafts, and the giant swing.
Some of our offerings include:
African American Females Camp
This camp gives African American females a chance to reflect, connect, and build friendships while enjoying hiking, crafts, and campfires on the shores of the Key Peninsula at Camp Colman.
African American Males Camp
In partnership with the 100 Black Parents Advocacy Group, this camp invites African American males to explore the great outdoors and experience archery, team challenges, and more at YMCA Camp Orkila on Orcas Island.
Camp for Exceptional Families
Hosted by Camp Orkila in partnership with the University of Washington's Autism Center, this weekend is ideal for families of all shapes, sizes, and abilities to unwind from the pressures of busy everyday lives. It has been specially adapted so that everyone in the family can participate.
LGBTQ Family Camp
This camp provides families with the opportunity to enjoy outdoor fun together while connecting with other LGBTQ families, participants, and allies. Join us for this colorful celebration of family and community. Contact us if interested in attending at Camp Colman or Camp Orkila >
Women’s Wellness Retreat
Sometimes the best way to give back to your family is by taking a well-deserved weekend away with activities designed just for women to renew and relax. Whether they come with friends or to connect with new ones, participants leave feeling centered in mind, body, and spirit.
