Jill Baum - Camp Director
After two decades with the Student Conservation Association (SCA), Jill returns to the Y with a strong background in conservation stewardship and a passion for community building, sustainability and service. She grew up paddling with Camp Manito-wish YMCA, then spent several years as a program staff member at Frost Valley YMCA. A native Midwesterner, her previous PNW experience was as Program Director of the SCA Mount Rainier Recovery Initiative following the devastating floods of 2006. Jill is excited to lead our Camp Colman team.
Jeremy Plane - Summer Program Director
Prior to joining the Camp Colman leadership team Jeremy previously worked for 17 years at YMCA Camp Abnaki in Vermont. During his time there he worked as a cabin counselor, Village Leader, Program Director, and Assistant Camp Director. Jeremy is also an Accreditation Visitor for the American Camp Association, and previously served as secretary for the Vermont Camp Association.
Jillian Escobar - Director of OEE
Jillian Escobar first came to Camp Colman in 2014 from the Boston area as an instructor for the Outdoor Environmental Education program. Since her time at Colman, Jillian has worked in various roles in the outdoor education world including a trip leader, ski instructor, and challenge course facilitator. When she is not at camp she enjoys traveling and being active in the outdoors, especially skiing and hiking. Her favorite memories from camp are when she has been able to watch someone discover something exciting and new they didn’t know before. Jillian returned to Colman in the Spring of 2018 as the Director of OEE and is excited to bring new opportunities to people at camp!
Jessica Peterson - Assistant Director for Conferences and Retreats
Jessica Peterson grew up on Bainbridge Island, WA and started her Colman career in the summer of 2013. She has worked in various roles over the summer seasons here, and in the fall of 2016 became the Assistant Director for Conferences and Retreats. Jess is also our Waterfront and Lifeguard Trainer and loves spending time in and around the water. Her favorite moments from Colman have been the relationships she has made with co-workers, and watching families and groups come together on the weekends to have the full camp experience!
Katherine “BK” Berning - Assistant OEE Director
Katherine “BK” Berning is going on her 2nd year at Colman as the Assistant OEE Director. BK has worked at 4 different YMCA camps across the country in various roles such as: Cabin Counselor, Adventure Trips Director, Behavior Coordinator, and Site Supervisor. BK loves OEE because it gives students and adult’s hands on learning experiences and connects them to the natural world. Her favorite moments from Colman have been watching staff and students grow as environmental stewards of their communities!
Connie Fechner - Food Service Director
Connie Fechner has been Camp Colman’s Food Service Director since 2002. Connie has a passion for mentoring local teens from the key peninsula and teaching them cooking skills as well as life skills at camp. Connie enjoys being creative with the menu for schools and groups and works hard to cater to guest and staff needs. She looks forward to continuing her work here at Colman and she is excited to see camp grow as a whole in the coming years! Fun Fact: Connie and her husband Jeff got married on Colman’s beach in 2008!
Brian Carpenter - Facilities Director
Brian Carpenter grew up going to Camp Orkila and now calls Camp Colman home! Brian is our Facilities Director and has been at Colman since the summer of 2017. Brian enjoys the problem-solving aspect of his role and works to create a safer place to work and play at camp. In his free time, Brian enjoys spending time in nature and bringing his family out to camp. He is excited for the future at camp and to watch campers have an amazing Colman experience!
