It’s time to ACT! In this program families gain skills and a sense of community needed to make small, sustainable changes that support healthy habits.

ACT! stands for Actively Changing Together, which is a program that was developed in partnership between Seattle Children’s and the YMCA of Greater Seattle. The program is one 90-minute session once a week for 12 weeks. During each session, kids and their parent/guardian participate in fun, engaging, physical activity, meet with other families trying to improve their family’s health and learn about nutrition through hands on cooking activities.

Habits are hard to change, so incorporating healthy habits early on in life will set young people up for success when it comes to reducing their risk of diabetes, obesity, heart disease and other chronic illnesses down the road. We also know that having adults model healthy habits can make all the difference, that’s why ACT! Engages the entire family.

The ACT! program covers topics that can make a world of difference for kids like: setting reasonable goals, the different types of fitness, limiting screen time, celebrating personal victories and so much more.

ACT means kids and families aren’t alone in their journey for health. They are supported and a part of a large community of health experts and other families so that every participant has the support they need for a life of empowered healthy choices.

ACT participant Joshua loved the program and said, “You helped me realize I wasn’t the only kid who needed help to be healthier. You helped me know that we all need to be healthy regardless of our age.”

Check out this video of some participants from the Matt Griffin YMCA. ACT changed their lives, it can change yours, too!
