Recipe: Stovetop Popcorn, 3 Ways

Ditch the microwave version for this heart healthy, whole grain snack.

POPCORN INGREDIENTS

  • 2-3 tablespoons avocado (or other high heat) oil
  • 1/3 cup popcorn kernels

DORITO SEASONING

  • 2 tablespoons nutritional yeast
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon cumin
  • ¼ teaspoon paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon chili powder
  • ¼ teaspoon sea salt

TRUFFLE PARMESAN SEASONING

  • ¼ teaspoon truffle salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ cup grated parmesan cheese

RANCH SEASONING

  • ½ teaspoon dried dill
  • ½ teaspoon dried chives
  • ½ teaspoon dried garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon dried onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon sea salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Pour oil and 3-4 popcorn kernels in a large pot. Cover with a lid and heat over medium high heat.
  2. Listen carefully until you hear kernels pop and add remaining kernels.
  3. Cover again and immediately begin to gently shake the pan around on the stove top until popping has stopped.
  4. Immediately remove from heat and pour into a large bowl.
  5. Mix seasoning blends into individual small bowls and sprinkle popcorn, to taste with your favorite!

RECIPE NOTES

  • ¼ cup popcorn kernels yield approximately 7 cups of popcorn
  • 1/3 cup popcorn kernels yield approximately 10 cups of popcorn
  • ½ cup popcorn kernels yield approximately 15 cups of popcorn
  • Store leftover Dorito or Ranch seasoning in an airtight container for several months.
  • Store leftover Truffle Parmesan Seasoning (if any), in the refrigerator for 1-2 weeks.
