When the trainer I'm working on my Personal Wellness Plan with suggested I start my reintroduction to fitness with a class called Functional Fitness for All, I smirked to myself knowing just what those coded words really mean: easy class. I thought, no problem, sounds as good of a place as any to start, plus I could use the confidence boost.

I got to the class a little early and people were already filing in grabbing the tools for the class like old pros. As they stacked their step boxes, and selected their preferred dumbbells, while the instructor, Lee, helped me get settled.

15 minutes into the class, Lee announced, over the pulse of the carefully curated boy band playlist, that our warm up was over. I was fully sweating and was sure the class was supposed to be over by then. Not so. 45 minutes left to go. As the youngest person by at least 20 years, I was not only the sweatiest person, but I was also the only one who knew the words to the N'Sync song playing. As I'm sure you already know, you win some you lose some.

One of my big fears in fitness (okay and in life in general) is looking like an idiot. I feel most vulnerable when I don't know what I'm doing. That fear poses a big problem when I'm trying to challenge myself and learn new things. So, in Functional Fitness for All, I learned that maybe my fear of looking stupid is actually misguided narcissism because it hinges on the idea that everyone is looking at me, and furthermore that they care. The truth is, nobody is looking at you and nobody actually cares. No group of people proves this more than the 11:00 am FF crew because everyone has their eyes squarely set on their own step box, and if they do make eye contact with you, they'll throw you a thumbs up.

This class is a full body work out that's ideal for all fitness levels. It's totally customizable, so even if you're in really great shape, there are ways to make sure you get what you need from the class. I recommend this class to anyone that is looking for a fun group of people to cheer each other on with!
