Make Kent a Place of Opportunity for All
Kent is a city of great potential. With 125,000 residents with more than one in four of them under the age of 18, it’s a great place for families, seniors, individuals, and everyone in between. Kent is home to growing businesses, vibrant social opportunities and rich diversity.
But there’s something missing.
Kent has too few places where people of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds can come together to be active, educated, and inspired by one another—engaged in building a stronger community for us all.
“We need a place for our community to come together. Everybody needs to learn how to swim. And parents need an affordable place where they can feel safe to go with their children.” – Carol M. / Kent Community Member
With your help the Y will be one of those places for Kent. Together, we can give local folks exciting new opportunities to exercise, play, be healthy, learn new things and to contribute to the life and vitality of our community. Together, we can help everyone build meaningful connections, reach their fullest potential, and improve their health and wellness overall.
Improved Health, Education and Well-Being
Did you know?
- The average life expectancy in Kent is 79 years – seven years fewer than people living in similar communities nearby.
- Three out of five students at Kent elementary schools qualify for free or reduced price lunch.
- Only about half of Kent third grade students meet reading and math benchmarks.
- Nearly one in four Kent students don’t graduate from high school.
Our new Y in Kent will provide the YMCA’s proven chronic disease prevention and weight loss programs – along with critical services and programs, like support for young people experiencing homelessness and expanded summer camp offerings, educational and before and after school programs for students of all ages.
Thanks to your contributions, most of these programs are provided for free, or at reduced rates, so kids, families and adults have a chance to reach their full potential.
Opportunities for All: The Y Campaign for Kids and Communities
Together we have raised $35 million dollars for the new Kent Y. We need your help to raise the final $1 million for this project. Every gift matters. Help us sprint to the finish line and consider a gift of financial support to bring a Y to Kent.
Your gift will help build a full-service YMCA that will transform the greater Kent community. Our new Y will become a hub of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility for generations to come, serving approximately 22,000 people each year.
