Born and raised in Missouri, I moved to Washington July 1976 to join my husband, who had accepted employment here. My employment for over 30 years was in human resources.  Upon retiring in 1995, I joined the Y and signed up for senior water aerobics.

After a few months participating in the class, I was asked to sub as an instructor when needed and available.  In September 2005, one of the instructors quit, and I was asked if I would take over her schedule. I took classes on instructing through the Y and accepted the position on a volunteer basis.

I'm enjoying the activity, assignment, employees I work with and the people in the classes. As a volunteer I can take off and go when I need, but make sure there is someone who can fill in for me.

About four years ago I introduced "singing" into our routine of exercises.  Along with the songs I first introduced, I asked the members to contribute songs that would go with the rhythm of any one of our particular exercises. Thanks to the members of the class, we've added many more songs, and adding changes for each different holiday.

Water aerobics is good for your health, and by adding singing, it helps with memory, breathing and gives us pleasure, which are all good for the soul.

I will continue to serve as an instructor as long as I can and am wanted in this position.

If you want to have fun while getting your exercise, We'd love to have you join us at the Bellevue Y!  (Mon & Fri at 1:00-1:55pm)
