Impact Story: Sherry

Sherry didn’t have a place to call home for five years. In that time, she also suffered the effects of fibromyalgia, diabetes, and high blood pressure. Once she found housing, she knew she needed to focus on her health.

Thanks to the Y’s financial assistance program, Sherry was able to take part in water exercise classes and work out twice a week. Since joining the Y a year ago, the effects of her chronic illness have reduced, and she’s seen an overall improvement in her quality life. Sherry also grew her support network of Y friends, and began volunteering to help her gain valuable interpersonal skills as she looks for a job. She credits the Y’s welcoming community of staff and members with changing her life for the better.
