Run, Walk, Skip or Dance to a 5K

Join us for a FREE a virtual family 5K to celebrate Healthy Kids Day, near or far!  The 5K (3.1 miles), or your distance of choice, can be completed on your own time and in your own place whether that be your neighborhood, a local park, or even in your backyard.  Run, walk, skip, or dance your way across the finish line while having fun as a family. 

The first 100 kids to register will earn a super awesome finisher medal to be picked up at Y location near you.  Use the resources below to start training now!

Super Jock 'N Jill and Road Runner Sports both generously donated prizes! We'll randomly draw nine names and contact the winners will be notified by Friday, April 16.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. Why a virtual 5K?

We want to encourage our kids and families to get out and get moving, so as part of the 2021 Healthy Kids Day, we are encouraging you to train with your family to run a 5K (or other Fun Run distance of your choice!) on April 10, 2021.

2. When will the virtual 5K take place?  

The Healthy Kids Day Virtual 5K will take place on Saturday, April 10 but you will have until the end of the day on April 11th to tag us on your social media to be entered to win a fun prize. You can complete your 5k on your own time schedule in your neighborhood or other safe and accessible space.

All participants are encouraged to maintain appropriate physical distancing and go at their own happy pace. We will celebrate everyone’s achievements by posting your pictures, quotes, and stories. If you are able, please share your success by emailing pictures to nderr@seattleymca.org or posting on social media using #seattleHKD 

3. What is the cost of the virtual 5K?

 FREE!

4. Do I need to register for the virtual 5K?
 Yes! This is a free event, but we encourage you to register so you can download a race bib and training calendars. The first 100 kids to register will also be able to pick up a finishers medal at their local Y. Every participant will be entered to win a prize. You can win gift certificates to Super Jock N Jill, sock gift cards from Road Runner Sports, Y swag, and more!

5. What if I want a shirt? 
Let us know when you register on March 19! You will have the opportunity to pay $10 for a super cool Healthy Kids Day 5K Fun Run shirt.

6. What are virtual 5K training programs?
All participants will be able to download our 5K training calendar which is designed to guide you to the finish line! Try to complete as many of the activities on the Indoor and Outdoor calendar as possible before race day!

7 What is a virtual 5K? 
This will be a 5K (3.1 miles) that you complete with your family member(s) on or before April 11th. You choose the day, time and place (following local physical distancing guidelines of course) to walk, run or skip a 5K.

8. How can I make this feel like a real 5K? 
All registered runners can download a fun 5K bib which they can print at home, color in, and add stickers to. Create a finish line with chalk, streamers, or string between two trees – the possibilities are endless! Don’t forget to take a picture of you crossing the finish line.

9. What if I am not prepared to run 3.1 miles?
No problem at all! You can choose to complete any distance you’d like for this fun race.
