No Child Left Inside Bill Signed Into Law
Great news! On May 13th Gov. Inslee signed the "No Child Left Inside" bill (SB 5843). It was a historic day as we are on the road to empowering thousands of our kids to get outside, learn, explore and play in Washington's natural areas. The Metrocenter Y's Outdoor Leadership Director, Courtney Aber, is pictured below (in bright blue) with the Governor and other supporters after the bill was signed.
HomeStreet Bank Sponsors a Successful Independent Living Conference
Thanks to a generous gift from HomeStreet Bank, the Metrocenter YMCA held it's annual Independent Living Conference on Saturday, April 25th. The event was a huge success, with young people from throughout the region attending. With a theme of #WhoAreYou?, young people explored the idea of identity, self-advocacy and empowerment. Workshops on a variety of fun and instructive topics were enjoyed by all, prior to an Open Mic event with performances of spoken word, singers, rappers and improv actors. Young people received a wealth of resources, connected with YMCA staff and peers, and strengthened their ability to use their own voice. Thank you HomeStreet Bank!!

Gates Foundation and Microsoft Partner with the Y for Day of Caring
Employees from Microsoft and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation gave generously of their time and talents at five Metrocenter YMCA sites at this year’s United Way Day of Caring.
