 Why the Y?

Give to the Y, Unlock Potential

Lasting personal and social change can only come about when we all work together to invest in our kids, our health and our neighbors. Your gift makes an immediate, lasting impact in your community. People striving to overcome difficult circumstances are able to become healthier and more confident as they connect with YMCA programs and services.

Your donation stays in our community, with 95 cents of every dollar going directly to programs and financial assistance.

Give today and make a positive change in your community! Join the Y in nurturing youth, promoting healthy living and fostering social responsibility.

Addressing Critical Local Needs

Your gift enables the Y to help people affected by some of our community’s most serious issues:

  • More than 13% of Seattle residents are living below the federal poverty level ($22,050 annually for a family of four).

  • In 2009, more than half of King County adults were either overweight or obese, and almost a quarter of young people were overweight or at risk of becoming so.

  • About one-third of Seattle students don’t graduate high school with their peers.

With your support, the Y can continue to address these and other pressing issues – and expand our work to reach more people.

Turn Your Gift Into…

Their Potential
Because we believe that all kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve, the Y is for Youth Development. Through the Y, thousands of local youth are learning the values, skills and relationships that lead to positive behaviors, better health and educational achievement – right now and in the future.

Their Health
Through our 13 branches and two resident camps, the Y promotes Healthy Living. We’re passionate about providing guidance and resources to help people maximize their health and prevent chronic disease. The Y brings families closer together, encourages good health and fosters community connections through fitness, sports and shared interests.

Their Future
The Y has been listening and responding to the needs of our neighbors for more than 130 years. Social Responsibility is central to who we are. Through education and training in neighborhoods, connecting diverse demographic populations and building healthier communities with partners, the Y fosters care and respect for all.

 Lives Impacted

At the University Y, we're passionate about providing guidance and resources to help people of all ages and abilities understand and value their health and well-being.

Danielle, Family Programs Parent says...
My daughter loves the Y. All of her friends come from the YMCA. Her 2 best friends don't attend her own school, but they all play together at the YMCA. When we ask her about the favorite part of her day - she always tells us about her time at the YMCA. Without the Y, she wouldn't have her same friends and we wouldn't have the same experience either. We can't thanks the Y enough! Without money raised from the Partners With Youth campaign, we wouldn't be able to be a part of the Y community. We are beyond grateful for the passion and devotion the staff has toward our child and every child in the programs!

Teen Summer Camp Parent says...
We're only kids once. My son loves to hang out, relax and have fun with other teens at the YMCA. the counselors help the youth grow, have higher self-esteem and give them the configence to try. I feel the University YMCA Quest program allows my son to be himself. The teen years are a difficult time of life and this stage can be a turning point for many. The Y helps my son's future by showing him that you can be a fun, cool and responsible adult. I can't help but be incredibly grateful for the fact that my son is there. Without financial assistance, my son would be home alone playing video games or watching TV. He is an only child and with working parents. In many neighborhoods, kids aren't playing with other kids. This sort of boredom causes depression and can lead kids to make wrong decisions. The YMCA helps my son blossom.

Daniel, Participant at Eckstein Middle School's Community Learning Center says...
We get to learn things they don't teach at school like digital arts and cooking.
