Social Responsibility: 3 generations of volunteers feeding the hungry
The Y Neightborhood Garden at the University Y is a volunteer-led project that provides fresh vegetables for Y members, members of the community and for food programs serving homeless teens at the Y. Through the support of the incredible team of member volunteers, Seattle Tilth, and volunteer groups including Glant Real Estate and Vision 16 from the UW, the garden is in great shape for the summer. In April, the produce from the winter crops was harvested and part of it was used for a salad to share with homeless teens at a Sunday meal.
The Y Neighborhood Garden is an incredible example of the possibilities that become reality when Youth Development, Social Responsibility and Healthy Living converge at our local Y.
Special thanks to Deb Vasquez and her son Vinnie (pictured) who have inspired so many through their work in the garden.
