GET IN ON THE ACT! Actively Changing Together (ACT!)
Research has shown that parents are often their children’s most important role models. When kids see their parents enjoying healthy foods and being physically active, they are more likely to do the same.

What happens when you ACT?
You and your child enjoy games and activities together like fitness stations, obstacle courses, swimming and dance to build cardiovascular health, strength and flexibility.
You’ll also learn about nutrition, meal preparation and ways to keep hunger satisfied, like having nourishing snacks on hand and drinking more water. Each session includes fixing and enjoying a light meal together.
In this interactive environment, fitness becomes fun and smart eating is celebrated. Healthy living takes route among new friends. It's time to ACT! In partnership with the Seattle Children's Hospital, the Meredith Mathews East Madison YMCA offers ACT! (Actively Changing Together) for youth ages 8-14. Youth must be referred by a health care provider and have a BMI greater than 85th percentile. The program begins on February 26th, 2012 and includes:
One 90 minute group session per week for 12 weeks
A nutritionist and physical activity coach who leads each session
Energizing games, activities, and light meals
“MY SON’S SELF-ESTEEM IS BETTER – HE’S LOST WEIGHT AND INCHES. AND THE PROGRAM GIVES US BONDING TIME.”
- Anne, ACT! Parent
