What is the Global Teen program?

Global Teens - Colombia, Japan, Korea, Senegal, Taiwan

The Global Teen program is a 10-month leadership, cultural competency and service learning program for teens. Teens from the Greater Seattle area start an application selection process in December to January. From February until June, they participate in monthly meetings with for group building and fundraising. From June 25-28, they will have an intensive week of training and preparation. In July/August, they visit their assigned country for two weeks to learn, serve and meet with other youth. When the teens return, they debrief and share their experience with their school and their community. The program concludes in October with a celebration, and the teens receive a certificate of completion.

What is the Youth Ambassadors Program (YAP)?

The Youth Ambassadors program is the reciprocal program of the Global Teens program, where teens serve as ambassadors and hosts to visiting teens from YMCAs around the globe. Teens will learn how to provide Seattle hospitality by giving tours of local YMCA branches and area attractions. Activities include: team building, visits to Pike Place Market and the Space Needle, meeting Microsoft executives and visits to Microsoft Visitor Center, tours of the University of Washington, and welcome and farewell parties at the local branches.

Host Family Experience

Being a host family is a great way to expose children and youth to other cultures and learn as a family about other countries. YMCA host families will host youth for four to seven days while the visiting teens participate in planned activities during the weekdays.
