When you volunteer with the Downtown Seattle YMCA, you become part of a community that values all people and enables everyone to achieve their potential in spirit, mind and body.
Founded in 1876, the Y is a charitable, nonprofit serving King and south Snohomish Counties. Volunteers have always been a vitally important part of our story. Today, nearly 10,000 volunteers help support a wide range of programs in youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Whatever your interests, there are ways to share your time and talents.

Young Adult Services
The mission of the YMCA of Greater Seattle is “Building a community where all people, especially the young, are encouraged to develop their fullest potential in spirit, mind and body.” Our Young Adults programs provide opportunities and resources for young people to set their own goals as they move from foster care or homelessness.
Urban Gardening Specialist: Assist in the planning and construction of a sustainable roof-top garden on the 2100 building. Share your knowledge of gardening—the maintenance of gardening (planting, watering, weeding and trimming) - as well as communicate the benefits socially and environmentally of urban gardening.
Individual Development Account Administrative Assistant: Support in entering data from participant attendance at workshops, updating spreadsheets for billings and entering financial information. This position assists IDA Case managers with completing forms for participant withdrawals and incentive earnings. Help with mailings, making copies and filing.

The Y offers youth development programs designed to help young people build self-esteem, strengthen positive values and establish healthy behaviors—creating a foundation for youth in which to grow into contributing adults.
Academic Support Helper: Assist children during homework time with literacy skills or other development needs. The Y is looking for homework tutors and mentors to provide assistance to elementary age children in the before/after school enrichment programs.
Story Time Volunteer: Teach children that reading is fun as well as educational by leading a story time at one of the Y’s preschool sites. Engage children with age appropriate books and generate learning conversations. Experience with children and the ability to lead a small group preferred.
Preschool/School Aged Child Care Aide: Assist staff in providing a safe and enriching learning environment for children 3-12yrs old. Volunteers will provide staff with an extra pair of hands and eyes during playground time, field activities, healthy lifestyle programs and snack preparation. Volunteers are encouraged to consider their own talents and backgrounds in finding opportunities to teach and inform young minds.

Aquatics
Fitness Swim Coach: Do you have a love of swimming? Become a part of the wonderful community of fitness swimmers! This position includes coaching adult swimmers in all four stokes—front crawl, breaststroke, butterfly and backstroke—and assisting in technique improvement. Write workouts that engage a variety of skill levels. Swim Coach Certification, as well as First Aid/CPR required.
Laundry Attendant: The Downtown Y offers members the privilege of towel service. Upkeep on this service can be a daunting and sometimes challenging task. To keep up with the high demand of our active members we encourage the support of volunteers. We estimate 700+ towels are needed daily and 10+ commercial loads are washed.
