Youth and Government - Dale Turner Delegation

Founded in 1947, YMCA Youth Legislature provides opportunities for teens statewide to find their voice on the issues facing society today. Students, Grade 8 - 12, explore the meaning of civics and democracy in our nation by assuming the roles of Senators, Representatives, Lobbyists, Reporters or a Page they then go about researching and drafting creative policy solutions to community problems and engaging in service-oriented activities. Delegates learn and practice tolerance, understanding, and peer mentoring while putting to use real-world skills for a lifetime of civic involvement. This program culminates when we go to the state capitol May 2 - May 5, 2018 for the 71st Youth Legislature where the students present their bills and run a Mock Legislative session presided over by students elected in a state wide election.
