Art Classes for Kids

YMCA Arts programs and classes are excellent opportunities for youth to gain exposure to a significant aspect of our culture. Through the arts, participants experience activities that foster self-expression and build self-esteem, develop imagination, critical thinking, and valuable social skills. Arts programs create a better understanding of the various cultures and backgrounds that make up our community and help foster uplifting relationships. The arts are ideal in celebrating families, friends, and communities. PROJECTS TO BE COVERED (6-weeks)Dreams Nightmares - Looking at the works of surrealist and Op Art artists Joan Miro, Bridget Riley, and Salvador Dali Figures - Observational drawings, sculptures and collages focusing on movement and form. Look at artists Alberto Giacometti, Hannah Hoch, and Sir Anthony Gormley Identity - What makes us unique? Students will represent identity through the use of politics, religion, social, environment etc.. we will also Look at artists who use identity within their work.
