Live Fitness Classes
Let’s get together, apart! Check out these great live streaming fitness classes with local Y instructors.
Being quarantined doesn’t mean being alone. Reconnect with the Y community you’ve grown to love, and stay healthy without leaving your home. We’re so excited to connect with you, virtually!
Classes are hosted on Facebook Live. You don't need a Facebook account to view the live class, but if you'd like to chat with friends or leave a message for the instructor, you will need a profile. Classes are archived on our Facebook page after class. Just click on videos on the left side of the page!
Whether you're looking to build strength and stamina or ease stress and relax the body, we've got a live workout for you! Here's a look at the group exercise classes we're offering this week:
We know it can be hard to adopt a new fitness routine or get moving again. That's why we've enlisted seven of your favorite Y instructors to lead our live classes! They're specially trained to adapt their workouts for all levels of fitness and will be available to answer questions before and after class.
Deborah has been with the Y since 2014 teaching a variety of classes and facilitating programs as a Lifestyle Coach. She is a Radiant Health Yoga® certified teacher; certified Zumba®, Zumba Gold® and Zumba Toning® instructor; and a Dance for Parkinson’s® Teacher.
Heather has been teaching group exercise classes for 15 years. Besides finding fun ways to move to music, she finds joy in celebrating accomplishments with members to reinforce healthy habits.
Kelly has been teaching and coaching for over 20 years. Meeting people where they’re at, Kelly motivates and inspires members to be their best version through strength training, TRX, and yoga.
Kristin has been teaching group exercise classes for eight years. She loves to inspire others to be the best they can be through fitness and believes that working out should be fun, no matter your level.
1. Wait up to one minute for the video stream to go live.
Log on early to give yourself a few minutes to find the live stream and get settled in. Even if the class starts at 11:00 am, it might take up to a minute for the video stream to go live. Refresh your browser if you don’t see the stream after a minute. Instructors will build in a few minutes at the start of each class to allow you to find us.
2. Be aware that experiences vary based on browser and device used.
Accessing live classes might look a little different depending on what browser you use (Google Chrome is best) or how you are watching (via desktop, tablet, phone, etc.). Some participants have struggled with using their iPad, so try another device if you are having trouble.
3. Don’t worry about being late.
Instructors will build in a few minutes at the start of each class to allow participants to find the live stream, ask questions, connect in the chat box, and get settled.
4. Join in even if you don’t have a Facebook profile or account.
You can see the live video stream even if you don’t have a Facebook profile! If you’re viewing the video without an account, Facebook will repeatedly ask you to join their network, which can be a bit distracting. You also won’t be able to participate in the chat box.
5. Remember that you can see and hear the instructor, but they can’t see or hear you.
Facebook Live is a one-way video feed, so don’t worry about anyone watching you work out. If you’d like to connect with the instructor or classmates, post in the chat box! We’ll have a moderator available to provide additional support and answer any questions you may have! Please note that you may need to move into full screen mode to see the chat window.
6. Invite your friends and family!
Our live classes are free to all – even people who aren’t members at the Y – so invite everyone you know! Even though we’re apart, we can still be together. Plus, working out is more fun as a group, it’ll help with accountability, and it’s fun to connect before and after class in the chat box!
7. Ask questions and connect in the chat box.
One of our favorite aspects of our group exercise classes is the community they help create. We encourage you to connect with the instructor and other participants in the Facebook Live chat box before, after, and during the workout. The instructor and our class moderator may cheer you on and ask questions during the class, but if you’re focused on your work out, don’t worry about answering until you’re ready. If you ask your instructor a question during class, either the moderator will respond, or the instructor will after class is over.
8. Stay on the video, even if it pauses.
Depending on the strength of your internet connection, how close you are to the WIFI router, and other factors, your live stream video may pause. In most cases, it will start right back up after a few moments.
9. Watch the video later.
Facebook stores the live videos on our YMCA of Greater Seattle page, so you can watch them after the live class ends. You can find a library of all our past videos by clicking “Videos” on the left side of our page.
10. Turn on notifications!
Follow these instructions from Facebook on how to turn on or off notifications.
