Nathan Hale Extended Camp:Chess Club w/Orangutan(GR K-2)
Playing chess improves memory, concentration, foresight, creativity, problem-solving skills, and is correlated with better overall academic achievement. Students learn lessons, solve puzzles, and play one-on-one chess games. Lessons include how to play, openings, tricks (tactics), endgame (how to checkmate), chess history, and popular chess variants. The club is designed for all levels of chess knowledge - from beginner to advanced. No experience necessary. We will have a chess tournament on the final day with awards. The instructor will recommend where to find additional chess resources and play chess tournaments.
