AOA Presentation: Riding Public Transportation

The Metro Transit Instruction program works with senior citizens and individuals with disabilities to safely and confidently travel on public transportation in King County.

Northshore Y is offering a 3-part educational program.

Ramp training for those who wish to practice using the ramp to enter a parked bus with their mobility device (cane, walker, scooter, wheelchair) or service animal and sit or secure their device on the bus. Transportation provided for you and your mobility aid or animal to and from the bus location. Date is May 11, with 30 minute appointments from 10:30 am to 1 pm. Contact Metro Trainer Marie Marquart at 206-793-3133 to make your appointment.

A classroom presentation: the instructor will cover subjects such as paying the fare, what information is at a bus stop, where is the bus stop, communicating with the bus driver, exiting at the right stop, problem solving, and much more.

The instructor will also discuss the third part, an escorted community instructional outing planned for June 19.

Attendance at the presentation is a prerequisite for going on the community instructional outing.

Registration closes 48 hours before the presentation.

Attend Senior Health and Fitness Day on Wednesday, May 31 to get your ORCA public transportation pass for future riding on the bus and ferry.
