Rent Help Available for Young Adults ages 18-24 in King County

Struggling to pay rent? You're not alone. The Y is here to support young people through these financially uncertain times.

The Y Social Impact Center is offering up to twelve months of rent assistance for young adults ages 18-24 who live in King County. After applying, you will be contacted by the Y Social Impact Center Staff within 2 weeks about needed documents in order to meet additional eligibility.

Apply if you meet ALL criteria 1-4:

  1. Currently 18-24 years old  
  2. Household resides in King County (A household is any group of people wanting to maintain housing together - young adult does NOT have to be head of household)
  3. Income at or below 80% area median income over the past 60 days  
  4. Behind in at least 1 month of rent (full or partial) since March 1st 

You or anyone in your household must also meet at least ONE of the below criteria: 

  • Experienced homelessness (includes couch surfing or doubling up) in the past five years 
  • Been evicted in the past seven years
  • Housing been disrupted due to race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, or religion?
  • At risk of severe illness as per CDC (62 or older, underlying condition).  
  • A member of your household has a disability including physical, mental, emotional, impairment caused by alcohol or drug abuse, post-traumatic stress disorder, or brain injury, a person with HIV/AIDS is considered disabled. 
  • Currently pregnant or parenting
  • Experienced the foster care system, adoption, mental health or drug and alcohol treatment, or been involved in the court systems

Once you've applied, you'll be contacted by a Y Social Impact Center staff within 2 weeks about needed documents in order to meet additional eligibility.

Additional Info 

  • People who are undocumented are eligible for this program.
  • Assistance is available to tenants in formal and informal (friend/family) rental agreements.
  • Funding pays for 80% of the amount due OR the Fair Market Rent rate and will be available until June 30th, 2021.
  • Interpretation services available. Download flyer in Spanish
  • Rent assistance is limited to twelve months and can be any combination of past, current, or future rent.
