SUPPORTING OUR FRIENDS IN JAPAN

japan2.jpgMarch 10 & 11: Please join us for one or more community events in Seattle commemorating the first anniversary of the Japan disaster. Click here for details.

The YMCA of Greater Seattle has worked closely with Ys in Japan for over 50 years and is assisting the Japan YMCA to respond to survivors of the Japan tsunami and earthquake disaster in impacted communities.

Check out these KING5 TV reports about our work in Japan (broadcast Feb. 2012 and Sept. 2011), and please consider donating or volunteering with the Y to help survivors and communities recover.

VOLUNTEER IN JAPAN

We seek energetic, compassionate people (18+), preferably with Japanese language skills and cultural competency, to join a team of 4-10 volunteers who will travel to Japan and serve in YMCA Japan Relief work for one week or more. Activities will include but are not limited to helping people clean out and mend their homes, recreational and therapeutic activities for children and assistance at evacuation centers. Volunteers must be current on their tetanus vaccination and complete a background check and other Y training.

Trips will take place on the following dates:

March 16-25, 2012
May 10-20, 2012
Summer 2012 (dates TBD)

SERVICE TRIP SCHOLARSHIPS FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS
Generous funding from the Japan Business Association of Japan, Gobo Enterprises and other individual donors in Seattle allow us to provide service trip scholarships to 9-10 students who are studying or have studied Japanese at local colleges and universities.
