YMCA SUMMER PROGRAMS FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Who can attend a YMCA Summer Program?
The YMCA is a membership organization open to all people.

What are some of the things that make YMCA programs unique?
The YMCA offers high-quality, convenient programs that meet the needs of children and parents.  YMCA staff are highly qualified and take a careful approach toward each camper, all the while incorporating the core values of the YMCA: respect, responsibility, honesty, caring, faith and fun.  Participants in YMCA summer programs develop new skills, increase self-esteem and make new friends while having fun in safe, high-quality programs.

What are you looking for when you hire staff?
Summer at the YMCA is made possible by specially trained counselors and instructors who take the time to listen and make each child feel special.  YMCA staff help build confidence and self esteem by presenting just the right amount of challenge and excitement with age appropriate activities.  All YMCA staff receive extensive YMCA trainings and undergo a thorough screening.

Is there financial assistance or scholarships available to send my child to a YMCA program?
If you cannot afford the full cost of a YMCA program or membership, please ask for a confidential scholarship application.  Financial assistance, to the extent possible, is available to those in need, thanks to the YMCA Partners With Youth Campaign and United Way funds.

I'm a working parent. What are my options for before and after camp?
The YMCA offers Wrap Around Care to provide maximum convenience and flexibility for working families.  Wrap Around Care is available from 7:00 am to the beginning of the program and from the end of the program until 6:00 pm.

How soon should my child register for a YMCA Summer Program?
As soon as possible!  Some camps, sessions, and/or programs fill very quickly.  Once you have made your decision, send in a Summer Programs Registration Form, call or visit your local YMCA, fax a Registration Form, or register on-line to assure a registration.

What are your medical and first-aid accommodations and capabilities?
YMCA of Greater Seattle summer staff is trained in First Aid and CPR.  We can handle many illnesses and accidents on site and have the capability of delivering a child to the local hospital in less than 20 minutes.
