Why invest in positive solutions?
Help make your community a better place through the YMCA. Join with donors who share belief that regardless of the challenges children, teens or families face, their unique talents can be strengthened. Your donation supports YMCA programs and facility development, the critical tools that give vulnerable community members a greater chance for success.
Your gift is greatly appreciated and fully deductible as a charitable contribution. The YMCA is a tax-exempt 501 (c) (3) organization under IRS code.
"I don’t think that there’s any place that has more potential for influencing young people than Orkila. And I think that the YMCA has the potential of reaching kids and parents in a way that no other organization can. Because they do work with a total family structure, and there aren’t many organizations that do that. So we have parent/child camp and family weekends, and we have kids going to camp by themselves for the first time. And I think the YMCA is in a remarkable position to strengthen family values through what kids see at our camp."

Success Stories
"I thank you greatly from the bottom of my heart. Camp Orkila was the best experience I ever had. I’ve been to Disneyland before, but this was even better. One of my favorite things was the Discovery Clinics. What I did for Discover Clinics is Archery, Forest Games, BMX riding, Horse riding and the rock climbing wall. My favorite is the BMX biking because I went up and down all the hills and I jumped on my bike very high. If you haven’t done the for me, I would be missing out on the best thing in the world."
- Easton, Orkila camper and scholarship recipient
"My daughter had never been away from home or family for the length of a week before her first time at camp. So it was a growing experience for all of us. She talks about camp all year long – planning and looking forward to it, months in advance. She has made friends that she has kept in contact with for years. The financial aid that is offered allows her an experience that otherwise would not fit in our budget. We are both very grateful. She exclaims all the time that camp is her absolute favorite time of year!"
- Parent of scholarship recipient
"It’s an amazing common-ground experience. It really teaches kids to stand on their own two feet—and also how to lean on each other a little bit. Being in a new situation without your parents for the first time can bring out different aspects of your personality. It is very eye-opening. Even the toughest-looking kid may feel homesick and cry about it, and he may get consoled by a kid who has been quiet and reserved to that point."
-Roger Anderson, Retired CEO, GLY Construction, Y-Guides Dad and Orkila Parent
“There’s nothing like Camp Orkila in the world. The beauty of the area, the peace—it’s remarkable…. I was pretty reserved back then, not the star of the campfire scene. When you’re there on your own, it forces you to be more of an extrovert. You don’t have the safety net of being with friends. I learned to be more outgoing.”
-Carver Gayton, 1951 Summer Camper; Director, Northwest African American Museum
