ACT! Actively Changing Together (formerly Strong Kids Strong Teens)
The ACT! program (Actively Changing Together) helps overweight youth and their families establish healthy eating habits and incorporate physical activity into their daily routines. In partnership with Seattle Children's Hospital, this interactive, supportive 12-week program is offered at YMCA branches throughout the region. ACT! requires a provider referral to participate. If you, your child, and his/her primary care provider decide the program is right for you, your provider can fax a completed referral form to your YMCA Health and Well-being Director.

Cost:  Realizing that program participants have different abilities to pay, the YMCA has instituted a 3-level fee program to serve all community income levels. You may choose the tier that is most suitable for your family. Our goal is to serve all community income levels. Fees range from $25-$165.

Fall 2010 program at the Northshore YMCA is for teens ages 12-14. Following an orientation on Sept. 30, sessions will meet on Thursdays from 6-7:30 p.m., beginning Oct. 7.

Please contact Dana Oliver for more information: 425-485-9797 (phone), 425-486-7757 (fax). You may also email act@seattleymca.org or visit the Seattle Children's website.

LIVESTRONG at the YMCA: Exercise & Thrive
In a partnership between the YMCA of Greater Seattle, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, and the LIVESTRONG Foundation, this 12-week physical activity and wellness program (two 90-minute sessions each week) is available at multiple YMCA locations for cancer survivors who are at least 90 days out of cancer treatment. Through Exercise & Thrive, cancer survivors will build muscle mass and strength, increase flexibility and endurance, and improve capacity to perform daily activities. Exercise & Thrive may help reduce the severity of cancer's side effects, prevent unwanted weight changes, and improve participants' energy levels and self-esteem.

Registration:  Space is limited and registration is required. Contact Lindsey Gregerson at 206-344-3181 to register.
