Volunteer Opportunities

Family Host Events
Host a neighborhood information night for new campers to learn more about overnight camp.  We'll bring camp to you.  Give us a call at 206-382-5009 to schedule your event.  Click here to read more about hosting an event in your home or at your local YMCA branch. 

Work Weekends
Camp Orkila hosts a volunteer work weekend throughout the year.  It is a great way for you and your family to connect with camp, share your talents working on specific projects and have lots of fun at camp.

2010 Work Weekend Dates:

May 14th - 16th
October 15 - 17th

Examples of projects are:

    Trail Clean-up
    Storm Clean-up
    Archery/Riflery Clean-up
    Campfire clean-up
    Cabin Clean-up
    Barn work
    Dock float repair
    Clear the site for a new campsite
    And much, much more!

Families are welcome to attend, however childcare and recreational programming is not provided.  Please, no unaccompanied minors.  Lodging, food and transportation from the Orcas Ferry Landing are provided.  Please call 206-382-5009 for reservations.  Click here for additional information.

Summer Transportation Bus Volunteers
Assist YMCA Office staff and Camp Orkila counselors transporting campers to and from Camp Orkila.  Greet parents and campers, load luggage, supervise campers en route to camp, ride the ferry with campers and provide assistance to staff.  Click here for a description of our Transportation Assistant responsibilities.

Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older and be able to commit to the Saturdays of the month of July and/or August.  Application, background check and training must be completed in the Seattle office.  Transportation days for the summer 2010 occur on Saturdays with volunteers committing to a 10-12 hour day beginning at 6am.  Contact us at 206-382-5009 for more information and to apply. 

Partners with Youth Campaigners
Every January and February, YMCA Camping Services raises dollars to help send kids to camp that would otherwise be unable to attend.  Our goal in 2010 is to raise $350,000 but we need the help of dedicated volunteers to reach this goal!  Partners with Youth Campaigners reach out to family, friends and the camp community to share the story of the camp.  If you would like to volunteer, please call 206-382-5009.
